Crumbs: Rebellion

How I read during the summer when school was out:

During mandated walks that were my punishment for being “fat” according to him, I would [literally] run to the closest library which was two and half miles away. I would secretly take books without checking them out and hide them in my clothing and run home. Once it started to rain and my brother and I had at least a dozen books stuffed in our clothes between the two of us. We were terrified that our clothes would cling to our bodies and the shapes of the books would be revealed. We ran faster but that jarred the books free and they were falling out of our shirts and pant legs. We were hysterical with laughter and fear taking shelter from the rain under the trees. This was our teenage rebellion.
