This article rang true for me on so many levels as I’m sure it does for others who have suffered abuse and used their trauma to better their lives and/or the lives of others.
While I’m sure I have many shortcomings that are due to my childhood experiences, it also gave me a level of understanding and commitment for others. It gave me a conviction to find a man who knew what love and devotion really meant. And now I use the many examples I was given as things I will never do with my own children.
I will never use my trauma to inflict trauma. I will never excuse abuse just because one suffered abuse.
